CHRIST IS ALL (Col. 3:11)
NAMES OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
THE HEAD OF THE BODY
October 1 Colossians 1:15-20
He (Christ)is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
And He is the head of
the body, the Church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from
among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.
For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,
and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things
on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood,
shed on the cross
THE HOPE OF GLORY
October 2 Colossians 1:25-27 I (Paul) have become its
(the Church’s) servant by the commission God gave me to present
to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been
kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to
the saints. To them God has chosen to make known among the
Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in
you, the hope of glory.
THE MYSTERY OF GOD
October 3 Colossians 2:1-3 I want you to know how much
I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all
who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they
may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may
have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that
they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are
hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
THE
FULLNESS OF THE DEITY
October 4 Colossians 2:6-7, 9-10 So then, just as you
received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted
and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were
taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. For in Christ
all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have
been given fullness in Christ, who is head over every power and
authority.
HEAD OVER EVERY POWER AND AUTHORITY
October 5 Colossians 2:6-7, 9-10 So then, just as you
received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted
and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were
taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. For in Christ
all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have
been given fullness in Christ, who is head over every power and
authority.
CHRIST IS ALL AND IS IN ALL
October 6 Colossians 3:1-4, 11, 16-17 Since, then, you
have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above,
where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you
died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When
Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear
with Him in glory. Here there is no Greek or Jew,
circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or
free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual
songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever
you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the
Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
HIS (GOD’S) SON FROM HEAVEN
October 7 I Thessalonians 1:7-10 And so you (the Church
of the Thessalonians), became a model to all the believers in
Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord’s message rang out from you
not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become
known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything
about it, for they themselves report what kind of reception you
gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to
serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from
heaven, whom He raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from
the coming wrath.
FAITHFUL
October 8 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May God Himself, the
God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your
whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful
and He will do it.
THE LORD OF PEACE
October 9 2 Thessalonians 3:16 Now may the Lord of
peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you.
CHRIST
JESUS OUR HOPE
October 10 1 Timothy 1:1-2 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus
by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To
Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the
Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
THE KING ETERNAL, IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE, THE ONLY
GOD
October 11 1 Timothy 1:15-17 Here is a trustworthy saying
that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I
was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus
might display His unlimited patience as an example for those who would
believe on Him and receive eternal life. Now to the King
eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for
ever and ever. Amen.
MEDIATOR
October 12 1 Timothy 2:1-6 I urge, then, first of all, that
requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for
everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to
come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself
as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
THE MAN CHRIST JESUS
October 13 1 Timothy 2:1-6 I urge, then, first of all, that
requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for
everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to
come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself
as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
A RANSOM FOR ALL MEN
October 14 1 Timothy 2:1-6 I urge, then, first of all, that
requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for
everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to
come to knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself
as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.
THE
SAVIOR OF ALL MEN
October 15 1 Timothy 4:9-10 This is a trustworthy
saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and
strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the
Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
THE
RIGHTEOUS JUDGE
October 16 2 Timothy 4:6-8 For I (Paul) am already
being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come
for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in
store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the
righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to
me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
THE
BLESSED HOPE
October 17 Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings
salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No” to
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright
and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed
hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify
for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.
OUR GREAT GOD AND SAVIOR
October 18 Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation
has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say “No”
to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,
upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the
blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus
Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and
to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what
is good.
THE KINDNESS AND LOVE OF GOD OUR SAVIOR
October 19 Titus 3:3-8 At one time we too were foolish,
disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and
pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating
one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior
appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done,
but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of
rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us
generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been
justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of
eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you
to s tress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be
careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things
are excellent and profitable for everyone.
HEIR OF
ALL THINGS
October 20 Hebrews 1:1-4 In the past God spoke to our
forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various
ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,
whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made
the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and
the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by
His powerful word. After He had provided purification for
sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
So He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has
inherited is superior to theirs.
THE
RADIANCE OF GOD’S GLORY
October 21 Hebrews 1:1-4 In the past God spoke to our
forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various
ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,
whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made
the universe.
THE
EXACT REPRESENTATION OF HIS BEING
October 22 Hebrews 1:1-4 In the past God spoke to our
forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various
ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,
whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made
the universe.
HIS
(GOD’S) FIRSTBORN
October 23 Hebrews 1:6 When God brings His firstborn into the
world, He says “Let all God’s angels worship Him.”
GOD
October 24 Hebrews 1:8-12 But about the Son He (God, the
Father) says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and
righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have
loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God has
set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
He also says, “In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of
the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will
perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be
changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never
end.”
THE AUTHOR OF THEIR SALVATION
October 25 Hebrews 2:5-11 It is not to angels that He (God)
has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.
But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is man that
you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for Him?
You made Him a little lower than the angels; you crowned Him with
glory and honor and put everything under His feet.” In putting
everything under Him, God left nothing that is not subject to Him.
Yet at present we do not see everything subject to Him. But we
see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned
with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace
of God He might taste death for everyone. In bringing many sons
to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom
everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect
through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who
are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to
call them brothers.
THE ONE WHO MAKES MEN HOLY
October 26 Hebrews 2:5-11 It is not to angels that He
(God) has subjected the world to come, about which we are
speaking. But there is a place where someone has
testified: “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of
man that you care for Him? You made Him a little lower
than the angels; you crowned Him with glory and honor and put
everything under His feet” In putting everything under Him, God
left nothing that is not subject to Him. Yet at present we
do not see everything subject to Him. But we see Jesus,
who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with
glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace
of God He might taste death for everyone. In bringing many
sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through
whom everything exists, should make the author of their
salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who
makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same
family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.
A MERCIFUL AND FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST
October 27 Hebrews 2:14-18 Since the children have
flesh and blood, He (Christ) too shared in their humanity so
that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of
death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were
held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is
not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this
reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in
order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest
in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins
of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was
tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
THE APOSTLE AND HIGH PRIEST
October 28 Hebrews 3:1-2, 6 Therefore, holy
brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts
on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. He
was faithful to the one who appointed Him, just as Moses was
faithful in all God’s house. Christ is faithful as a son
over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold on to
our courage and the hope of which we boast.
A SON OVER GOD’S HOUSE
October 29 Hebrews 3:1-2, 6 Therefore, holy brothers,
who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus,
the apostle and high priest whom we confess. He was
faithful to the one who appointed Him, just as Moses was
faithful in all God’s house. Christ is faithful as a son
over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold on to
our courage and the hope of which we boast.
A GREAT HIGH PRIEST
October 30 Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a
great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the
Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize
with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in
every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then
approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
A HIGH PRIEST
October 31 Hebrews 5:4-6 No one takes this honor upon
himself, he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. So
Christ also did not take upon Himself the glory of becoming a
high priest. But God said to Him, “You are my Son; today I have
become your Father.”
